Responsabilidad

Welcome to Ms Soderlund’s Spanish Class! I am very pleased to have you as my student!  Before we begin to learn Spanish, let’s examine the three R s.

As your teacher, it is my RESPONSIBILTY to...

Behave in a way that shows RESPECT for myself, others, the

environment, property, time, and rules.

Behave in a way that encourages positive RESULTS.

Provide a physically and emotionally safe learning environment.

Design appropriate academic tasks.

It is your RESPONSIBILITY to behave in a way that shows

RESPECT for..

Yourself… Be intellectually honest; Do quality work; Speak up if you have concerns or needs; Set appropriate boundaries

Others…Honour diversity ; Honour space

Time… Honour yours, mine, and ours

Property… Take care of things (whether they belong to you, to your neighbour, to me, or to our school)

Rules…Know the rules for both our school and our class

The Environment…Reduce, reuse, recycle and repair!

In this class we will be telling a lot of stories together.   During these stories it is your RESPONSIBILITY to behave in a way that encourages positive RESULTS by...

• Sitting up

• Keeping your eyes up front

• Writing down EVERYTHING that you see on the board

• Responding with enthusiasm to the story!

You will also receive periodic quizzes and tests that are usually unannounced. The reason that I will not announce tests is that cramming for a test the night before does not produce long-term memory. Since I want you to know all of the material at all times, tests will include all of the Spanish we have learned, not just the current vocabulary list.  The good news is that while you will also be marked on homework, most of the work we do will be in class work, so you will have very little to take home.

OBJECTIVES:

Co-create stories together as a class

Use language expressions within the context of the stories and then expand usage of such to readings

Extract information from a story and respond to questions orally

Participate in story paraphrasing

Give some commands

Interact spontaneously in Spanish

Read a novel in Spanish

ASSESSMENT:

lTests, quizzes and projects                      60%

lIn class writing assignments                                              40%

A couple of house rules:

1) Don’t be late!!! If you are late, you must fill in a late slip and hand it to me.  And I really don’t like getting late slips for no good reason!

2) You are NOT ALLOWED PHONES IN THE CLASS unless you want them taken away.
